Some say that heaven smells of freshly baked bread which means that here in Soddenham we have a little piece of heaven on the Sodden Road at Gurney’s the bakers!

Gurney’s have been baking their wonderful bread here for over 75 years, and it is now Angela Gurney’s responsibility to take the family business forward. Since formally taking over in January last year, Angela is now the fourth generation of the family to be in charge. To many regulars it would seem that she had been in charge for a couple of years following the untimely death of her father Douglas in 2014, but she has been diligently learning all aspects of the business from her mother Lynne and long-time head baker Bryan Took to ensure its ongoing success.

Angela and Bryan are keen to expand their range of produce to include more exotic items, such as French Sticks, olive bread, and other Mediterranean delights, but is eager to point out that their standard range of loaves (cut and uncut), baps, bloomers and rolls will always be available!

Gurney’s are also proud sponsors of Soddenham Cricketball bread-based team refreshments, having laid on a tasty spread for players at every game for 17 years!

Mon – Sat: 8am until 4.30pm
Except on Wed: 8 until 11.30am (half day closing)
